Incident Info:

July 17, 2010: What appeared to be a dust cloud slowly drifted across the Station 14 parking lot Saturday afternoon interrupting the Heritage Days festivities only briefly.. When firefighter Jeff Pett was asked why he was standing still in the middle of it, he quickly and quietly replied, “they’re bees(!)” The swarm of honey bees had made their way through the busy town and settled on a tree at the edge of our parking lot. With a large crowed expected to see the band later that evening, it was decided the bees should be removed. Charlie Heffner, a Millcreek firefighter and bee keeper was called to take the bees back to his hives. Another call was made to Edinboro to borrow Tower 389 to reach the bees. Several bad jokes and a short time later, a majority of the bees were collected. Charlie was only stung once during the incident, and no other bee injuries were reported. A BIG thanks to Charlie and Edinboro’s Chris Karotko and Jason Dahle for their assistance. Units responding: T-389.
