Oct. 7, 2008: Waterford was dispatched around 2:00am to assist Union City with a motor vehicle accident on Route 97 near Union - LeBoeuf Road. Initial reports stated a Penelec utility truck rolled over, but when crews arrived on scene they found two vehicles. The first vehicle was a heavily damaged pickup with driver entrapment. The force of the collision ripped the driver’s door off the pickup and left it near the second vehicle. The second vehicle, a Penelec utility truck, was found approximately 150 feet away, also with heavy damage. The driver of the pickup was flown to the Hamot Trauma Center by Lifestar after a half hour extrication. The driver of the Penelec utility truck was transported to Hamot by Waterford 146 with minor injuries. Waterford’s Rescue 143 also responded to the scene with a backup rescue tool.
